Speeches
Kinsey – Hey Brothers! I am really hoping you’ll all consider re-electing me, because I worked hard to bring different events to all of you that I hoped you would all find interesting. If I am re-elected, I am more than happy to hear suggestions, as I did use some ideas that were suggested to me! Cookie decorating is something that was suggested to me, as well as another round of arts and shebangles. I also want to find a way to do something similar to the escape room, because the Brotherhood committee had a lot of fun planning and running it. I have so many ideas that the list would be endless if I put it all in this speech, so just take my word that I have a whole list written down! I absolutely loved serving as Brotherhood chair, and I would love to continue promoting Brotherhood throughout this chapter. Stay melloreal😎
Maddie S. – In middle and high school, I was part of the student council where we planned, organized, and ran school events and assemblies. I was a section leader in the marching band, where I helped others learn, grow, and have fun throughout the season. Similarly, I was a captain for my cheerleading team, where I was a role model and helped support others and answer any of their questions. I also have experience being part of committees, French Club and Prom Committee, which plan for meetings and special events. I believe that these experiences have equipped me to further my leadership and support for the organizations I’m a part of. I feel passionate about contributing to the chapter and using the skills I’ve developed to positively impact the fraternity.
Quentin – Hello brothers, my name is Quentin Campbell. I come to you all today because I believe that I would be the most fit candidate for the position of brotherhood. The word brotherhood is a word that holds deep meaning in my beliefs as a person. As many of you may know, I am a swimmer by heart and have been on many teams to this day. In every single one of those teams, I’ve witnessed the beauty of comradery. Sure, we may be doing some of the hardest work out there, but we were doing it together, and that’s what made us bond so closely. This was only amplified when we held fun get-togethers outside of practice. As a co captain in my late high school years, I helped organize some of these events like pasta dinners and the bleaching of our hair. Teammates came to me and appreciated the work I put into making these events happen. If I was elected brotherhood chair, sure, we wouldn’t be bleaching our heads anytime soon, but I would know the process on how to set up effective team building hangouts that would strengthen our love for music, and more importantly our friendship with each other. A team is defined by its comradery, and without that, there’s no team.
Questions
- Have you planned or organized social events before? Were they successful?
- (Kinsey) Yes, as previous Brotherhood chair, I planned a lot of events that I hope you all enjoyed attending. I had my fair share of unsuccessful events, but it was typically because of poor timing and not lack of interest.
- (Maddie S) Yes, I’ve helped plan events at my high school such as homecoming parades, dances, and assemblies. Although these things required a lot of work, they were always exciting and memorable for students. I also was part of my French Club’s committee where we planned activities for meetings as well as special holiday events. These activities always went well and were a lot of fun for the club members. I also have helped with planning our school’s prom on the prom committee, which was a lot of fun to plan and very well organized.
- (Quentin) While on my high school swim team, during my junior and senior year, I helped plan several events outside of practice to rally the team for meet’s. These would include pasta dinners, hangouts, bleaching hair for leagues, and other fun activities. These all turned out really successful and my teammates really appreciated them and the drive I had to make them happen. My biggest “social event” I helped plan was my own grad party. Of course my parents helped a bit with funding, I got all the right yard games, food, and chairs set up so my guests could have an enjoyable experience.
- Why is Brotherhood important? What does it mean to you?
- (Kinsey) Brotherhood is the strong bond that I have with each and every one of you, whether we are close or not. Anyone in the fraternity can approach me, and I will listen to any concerns or ideas that have come to me. I love being around everyone in KKY, and that is why I love planning the social events to be able to promote Brotherhood throughout the chapter.
- (Maddie S) Brotherhood is my personal favorite pillar, for me it symbolizes community, friendship, people you can trust, and people to have fun and new experiences with. Brotherhood events provide great opportunities for members to experience the meaning of brotherhood.
- (Quentin) I value brotherhood because it strengthens the bond between the group. When you have a strong sense of community and camaraderie in an ensemble, it leaves no room for negative feelings and brings about thriving friendships. I’ve seen this quite a lot in my time swimming and it is basically what defines a swim team.
- Do you have enough room to store the KKY Wooden Letters and Brotherhood supplies box?
- (Kinsey) Yes! I am in possession of them at the moment and all is well.
- (Maddie S) Yes
- (Quentin) Next year I will be living in a much bigger apartment so yes.
- How do you exemplify the Brotherhood Pillar?
- (Kinsey) I love talking to all of you, and I love bringing you all together to my events. I exemplify this pillar because I am always thinking about ways to strengthen the bond that we all have, and I will for sure continue to do that if I am re-elected.
- (Maddie S) I believe I exemplify the Brotherhood Pillar by attending brotherhood events as often as I can, and I look forward to socializing with my brothers and getting to know them better at events and meetings. Also, outside of the chapter, I’ve had great community and friendship in my marching band, concert band, wind symphony, and studio sections.
- (Quentin) As an individual, I am a very chill and calm person. I’m very approachable and love to meet and befriend new people. I also enjoy setting up hangouts between new and old friends alike. I believe all of these traits of mine exemplify my understanding of the brotherhood pillar.
- Are you comfortable with booking or learning how to book rooms at GV?
- (Kinsey) I have done it in the past and I have no problem with it.
- (Maddie S) Yes, I am more than willing to learn how to book rooms.
- (Quentin) I am mostly comfortable as I have seen others do it before. It wouldn’t hurt to have someone guide me through the process just to make sure though.
- What ideas do you have for events that appeal to different interests of the Brothers? Any other new event ideas?
- (Kinsey) In this semester I tried to introduce some new events that would appeal to different interests, such as engineering night, and I would love to try to get some more events similar to that. I feel like a lot of us are stem majors, so maybe even something that includes science somehow. I also just like to do fun little events that anyone can go to, such as movie night or balls day. I really enjoyed planning the escape room (and my committee was a HUGE help), so something similar to that would be really cool as well.
- (Maddie S) I would like to talk with not only the brotherhood committee, but also the rest of the chapter to see what event ideas they’d like to see happen. I think the most important thing about planning events is ensuring that they’re things that most everyone will look forward to.
- (Quentin) I liked the ideas of movie nights or gaming nights. Being an enthusiast of both forms of media, I’m sure I could find ways to expand on these better than they’ve been done before and even get people who consider themselves not to be big in either to go. I also think more outdoor activities like campfires and physical activities could be great opportunities for our chapter.
- How do you plan to promote brotherhood and building relationships amongst the chapter outside of your events?
- (Kinsey) The idea of working together to participate in the Brotherhood events was something I thought would promote Brotherhood, and it is something I would like to continue doing. I knew that for the escape room, everyone would have to communicate and work together, so I thought that would be a good way to promote Brotherhood. I also just want the Brothers to be able to stop thinking about school for an hour and come do something fun. It’s always refreshing when I get to go and do something fun with all of you!:)
- (Maddie S) I plan to make facebook posts and group chat reminders about events. I’d also encourage others to input their ideas and give feedback about events so the Brotherhood committee can continue to improve and engage our community effectively throughout the year.
- (Quentin) I plan to help create a culture in the chapter that boasts a strong sense of comradery. I plan to do this by helping people out when needed and being a friend to count on.
- Why do you want to be Brotherhood Chair?
- (Kinsey) I loved having the opportunity to be the Brotherhood chair these past couple months, and I want to be able to plan even more events that hopefully more people will come to! Planning social events is something I have done with about every group of friends I have ever had, so I’m no stranger to this kind of thing. I would love to be able to work with all of you for another year!
- (Maddie S) I think I’d have a lot of fun planning and organizing brotherhood events. I’d love to help our community stay engaged and involved in a positive and uplifting community.
- (Quentin) I want to be brotherhood chair because I believe it would be a fun chair to be in charge of and that I would bring a lot of skills to the table in terms of my prior experiences. I also believe it is but another logical step in helping me become a better leader in and outside of music.
