Historian

Speeches

Christiana – Hey Everyone, my name is Christiana Hatch and I am running for the position of Historian for our chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. I am very grateful and excited to have this opportunity. I think I am a good fit for this position because I am very organized and detail oriented. I like to take photos and very enjoy writing. This job seems really enjoyable. Again, I am very grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds.

Questions

  1. Have you ever had experience taking photos of people?
    • (Christiana) I do not have any professional experience taking pictures of people but I do really enjoy taking pictures. I dabble in taking pictures of nature and wildlife.
    • (Kaia) I have not, but I feel I could adjust quickly to doing so.
    • (Paige) Yeah, I did it a little while I was PR chair but I really got into taking photos during covid. Also see the next question.
  2. Do you know how to direct a crowd of people to position them for a group photo?
    • (Christiana) I have a general sense of how to direct people to position them for a group photo. I have observed Shelby and Maddie C. do it over the past couple years so I’m sure I could pick up on the fine details quickly.
    • (Kaia) While I’ve never done it before, I think it would be something I could learn to do (especially with a loud voice).
    • (Paige) My mom owns a preschool and I often take photos and videos of the kids for her. If I can get preschoolers to be in line for a photo, I’m pretty confident in my ability to do the same for college students.
  3. Do you enjoy record keeping and writing?
    • (Christiana) I do really enjoy record keeping and writing. I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. It’s a very calming activity for me.
    • (Kaia) I really like record keeping and keeping my materials organized, and one of my favorite assignment types is writing papers.
    • (Paige) Yes 🙂 a lot actually
  4. What is the current state of your Google Drive?
    • (Christiana) My google drive is pretty organized for the most part. I use google drive for class materials and assignments. It is the easiest platform for me to use effectively.
    • (Kaia) In regards to KKPSI, I’ve organized the stuff I’m able to (aka the records committee drive) into folders by year, so there would already be a place to put pictures from next year.
    • (Paige) Very organized actually. Though I often use word and excel still though, very organized.
  5. How do you stay organized and manage your time?
    • (Christiana) There are a few techniques that I use to manage my time. I keep a physical planner where I write down all of my assignments and tasks with due dates. Sometimes if it is a larger task, I will delegate time over a couple of days if time permits. I also keep a google calendar with all of the same things because sometimes I might not have my physical planner and will have my phone or laptop. I like to plan my weeks out in advance so I can delegate that time accordingly.
    • (Kaia) I currently use to-do lists for each week to keep track of things needing to be done, and it serves as a good reminder of what I need to do and allows me to easily sort what needs to get done first. I sort my records of things in ways that make sense (e.g. by year or by subject) so I can easily find things.
    • (Paige) I like to plan well in advance. Sometimes it’s hard to plan for everything but this is a position where I don’t think there would be any issue with planning in advance. I would likely plan everything that summer for the year and change anything that doesn’t work during the year.
  6. Do you have access to a camera? (Not required, but it is amazing if you do)
    • (Christiana) I do not have access to a professional camera but I have a camera on my cell phone.
    • (Kaia) While I don’t have access to a camera other than my phone, I would be willing to use editing softwares to make the pictures better quality.
    • (Paige) I do have a couple, but I don’t have professional cameras. (I’m actually unsure. I might?).
  7. What ideas do you have for our chapter bulletin board? What new things would you like to incorporate?
    • (Christiana) I would like to make the chapter bulletin board themed. I think that would be very cool.
    • (Kaia) I think it would be fun to include some fun stories from different events as well as summaries on why people like being in KKPSI in order to encourage people to join.
    • (Paige) Would love to have different themes. I would probably change the board every meeting if possible or every other. My mom is a preschool teacher so I own a lot of things for bulletin boards. I would also be interested in adding some fun interactive stuff. Still cooking up some ideas for that.
  8. Our chapter’s Bid Book is an ongoing project that needs to be caught up on and kept updated. Do you feel comfortable working with past Historians to “catch up”?
    • (Christiana) I feel very comfortable with working with the past Historians. I have a good relationship with the past two historians and have no issue reaching out to them if I need help.
    • (Kaia) I do, I’m comfortable with a lot of different messaging platforms so I could work with any media to reach them. While I do worry that we won’t be able to easily put things together for a while, I think with the amount of record keeping we do it would be accomplishable.
    • (Paige) Yes, I love Shelby. Plus it would be fun to get to know the other historians.
  9. How will you make sure your projects (Bulletin Board, Bid Book, Family Tree) stay up to date?
    • (Christiana) I would like to create dates in my schedule to update the projects. For example, I could possibly plan to look at and update the projects weekly or biweekly. I like to stay organized using my planner and google calendar.
    • (Kaia) Right now I utilize Google calendar to lay out my assignments and extracurricular things for the month into a to-do list, and I would do the same for the Historian activities.
    • (Paige) In question 8 I answered about keeping up to date with the bulletin board. Though I am very organized and I’ll plan ahead on weeks I’ll work on them or every week setting aside time to prepare. Also, I keep track of my own family tree so I can stay up to date on that easily.
